Effingham, IL – July 1, 2026 — For 25 years, The Cross at the Crossroads has stood as a beacon of faith and hope along Interstates 57 & 70, welcoming millions of travelers and thousands of visitors to Effingham each year. The organization has now strengthened its ties to the local community through membership in the Effingham County Chamber.

Soaring nearly 200 feet into the sky, the Cross is viewed as a universal symbol of God’s love, forgiveness, and salvation. The open arms of the Cross, spanning 113 feet, are a welcoming sign to the approaching traveler, while the site on which it sits offers visitors an opportunity for thought, reflection, and prayer. The Cross at the Crossroads has a mission to share the Christian message of love, forgiveness, hope, and eternal life through Jesus Christ. Located at 1900 Pike Avenue, the Cross is one of Effingham’s most recognizable landmarks.

The Cross campus features a “Life of Jesus Pathway”, where guests can walk among life-size bronze statues depicting significant moments in the life of Christ. Visitors are also encouraged to explore the Welcome Center, Chapel, and gift shop which are open daily from 10am-4pm.

Throughout the year, The Cross hosts numerous community events that draw thousands of participants, including the Good Friday Prayer Service, Easter Sunrise Service, Bible studies, Blessing of the Bikes, Nativity Display, Christmas Open House, and other faith-centered gatherings.

The Cross received its Chamber membership through the Chamber’s Pay It Forward Membership program. Sponsored by Kane Personal Injury, the initiative allows Chamber investors to provide memberships for local nonprofit organizations and community-focused groups making a positive impact throughout Effingham County.

Through the Pay It Forward Membership program, The Cross will have access to networking opportunities, business resources, educational programs, and partnerships that support its ongoing mission and strengthen connections within the community.
