In July of last year (2023), a joint Press Conference was held by Land of Lincoln Credit Union (LLCU) and the City of Decatur to announce an incredible community partnership initiative. This initiative began with LLCU donating a house and property (located on Union Street in Decatur) to the City of Decatur to be used as a single-family dwelling for displaced families seeking transitional housing through the Empowerment Opportunity Center.

To bring this initiative to fruition, a large community collaboration began involving LLCU, the City of Decatur, Richland Community College Workforce Development, Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly, and Empowerment Opportunity Center. All parties would bring their resources and expertise to the project to ready the home for use. At the time of the announcement, it was promised that once the renovations of the home were completed, a ribbon cutting ceremony would be scheduled. That time has arrived!

Please join us for the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and unveiling of the refurbished Union Street House and property produced by this tremendous community collaborative effort.
