Decatur, Illinois, November 8, 2023 – LLCU has made donations totaling $25,000 to thirteen (13) different central Illinois local food pantries. The donations were initiated in October to celebrate “Tackling Hunger Month” and in attempt to help fill a void caused by the discontinuance of several food drives that were formerly held in the LLCU service area.
The following non-profit organizations were recipients of this donation: Feed Macon County Initiative (includes Catholic Charities of Decatur, Good Samaritan Inn, Northeast Community Fund, and Salvation Army), Mattoon Community Food Center, Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry (Pana), Western Avenue Community Center (Bloomington), St. John’s Lutheran Food Pantry (Effingham), Manna Storehouse Food Pantry (Springfield), CCBA Food Pantry (Centralia), 6:35 Food Pantry (Vandalia), Nokomis Food Pantry, and Salvation Army Food Pantry (Macomb/Colchester).
“Our mission at LLCU is to provide people with education and tools to achieve financial success,” stated Robert Ares, LLCU President/CEO. “But we also know that financial success cannot be achieved if people are facing food insecurity. This is why we feel it is important to provide resources to local food pantries. They provide these basic essentials to individuals in our communities who are in need and us (LLCU Staff & Board of Directors) want to support that work as much as possible.” To join LLCU in donating to these central Illinois local food pantries, please visit the news blog at llcu.org to find links to each organization and make your donation today.
