Effingham, IL – August 1, 2023, After moving away to attend Illinois Wesleyan University, Effingham native and Family Physician Katelyn Klosterman, MD, is excited to return to her hometown as a family medicine provider at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Effingham Medical Clinic located within the SBL Bonutti Clinic.

“It’s really exciting to be back,” she said. “Between the impact we can make on the community’s health, and caring for people in the community who I know, makes this extra special for me.”

Dr. Klosterman received her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed a residency at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis. Following her residency, she practiced at Hendricks Regional Health near Indianapolis for two years. Dr. Klosterman had dreamed of one day returning to Effingham to practice medicine, so when the opportunity to work at the SBL Bonutti Clinic arose, it was the perfect opportunity for her.

“Sarah Bush Lincoln was really attractive to me. It’s a system that’s reaching into the smaller communities and taking care of those people,” she explained. “I wanted to be part of an organization that prioritizes making healthcare accessible to everyone.”

Practicing in the Effingham Medical Clinic in the SBL Bonutti Clinic was an enticing prospect for Dr. Klosterman. She received care in the original building when she was growing up. “The new building is bigger and brighter, and it’s definitely a great addition to Effingham,” she added.

As a family medicine physician, Dr. Klosterman is ready to make connections with families in an impactful way. She cares for people of all ages and who have a variety of medical conditions. “No two days are the same. I enjoy the variety of issues that I can help people manage,” she explained.

Caring for families is a rewarding experience for Dr. Klosterman. When she’s able to see members of a family and help all of them, she feels instant gratification. “Understanding the family dynamic often helps me understand their health needs,” she explained. “In the past, I’ve had members of a family share information about others, and when I get that bigger picture, it helps me understand all of them and help them individually.”

Dr. Klosterman started seeing patients in July alongside Advanced Practice Provider Megan Steffen, APRN. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Klosterman, call 217-238-4634. The Effingham Medical Clinic is located at 1303 West Evergreen Avenue, Suite 202.
