Effingham, IL – The City of Effingham will host a ribbon cutting on Wednesday October 30th at 9:00 am. This is the formal opening of a new portion of Thies Avenue, a reconstructed portion of Airport Road, as well as the dedication of Schutzbach Street.
This project was made possible by cooperation between the City, Effingham County, John Boos & Co., and Hetzel Overland Transport. It was funded with a combination of grants from the State of Illinois. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity awarded $1.46 million to the project through the Rebuild Illinois program. Another $770,000 was through the Illinois Department of Transportation Truck Access Route Program and Economic Development Program. This funding was available based on commitments from John Boos and Hetzel Trucking to add and retain jobs at the facilities served by these improvements.
This $2.24 million construction project was completed by A & R Mechanical out of Urbana, Illinois. The engineering design and inspection for this project was performed by Milano & Grunloh.
The work on Thies Avenue and Schutzbach Street was a 1,250 linear foot extension including sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and a concrete street. The work on Airport Road replaced 1,100 feet of oil and chip with new street; including storm sewer, curb and gutter, and a concrete street.
The public is invited to attend this ribbon cutting at the new portion of Thies Avenue. Attendees can park at the west end of the John Boos, Inc. parking lot.
