Disney’s “Newsies Jr.” will be playing at Effingham Junior High School Nov. 9, 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
The inspiring musical is based on the 1992 Disney film “Newsies.” It is a rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of young newsies in Manhattan in 1899. Jack rallies these young workers from across the city to strike against unfair conditions, which sheds light on other unfair conditions for children working at that time.
The musical features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman. The show is directed by Donna Walls, assisted by Mallory Walls and Jill Jones. Isabella Munoz is vocal director, Amanda Aeschleman is choreographer and Jay Macklin and the CTEC Class with Chris Zacha have done set construction.
Tickets will be on sale in the junior high office beginning Oct. 30 before school, during the lunch hour and after school. Tickets also will be available at the door the nights of the performance. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and all seats are reserved.
