EFFINGHAM, Ill. – HSHS Medical Group is pleased to welcome Dr. Bashar Alzahabi to HSHS Medical Group Family and Internal Medicine – Effingham. He is a board-certified nephrologist with more than 25 years of experience treating patients with kidney disease in Effingham and is also board-certified in internal medicine. Dr. Alzahabi is known for his patient-first approach and long-standing relationships with those in his care. He is now scheduling patients at 900 W. Temple Ave., Building B, Suite 1500 in Effingham.

Dr. Alzahabi earned his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria in 1988, graduating in the top 10% of his class. During his time there, he completed an internship rotation in multiple clinical areas at Damascus University Hospital. He later completed an externship in internal medicine at McLaren General Hospital in Flint, Michigan, followed by a three-year residency and internship in internal medicine at Lincoln Hospital, New York Medical College. He then completed a two-year nephrology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he also conducted research on TGF-B in diabetic nephropathy.
