(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University announced yesterday that Brittany Tierney has been selected as the University’s new Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Tierney, who currently holds the Associate Director role at the Charleston, Illinois-based regional residential University, was selected after distinguishing herself from other qualified candidates. Her new role begins July 1.

“I am beyond thrilled to start in this new role and to continue serving students here at Eastern Illinois University,” Tierney said. “Any successful higher education admissions director is only as good as the team surrounding them, and I am so incredibly lucky and honored to have been a member and leader of a such a remarkable team at EIU for so many years. I can’t wait to see what else this amazing team can accomplish together for EIU and our students.”

“Brittany has the energy, enthusiasm and experience that this critical position demands, and we are excited for her leadership in this key area of our EIU enrollment enterprise,” said Josh Norman, Vice President for Enrollment Management at EIU. “Her familiarity with EIU and our unique enrollment landscape is sure to benefit Eastern’s ambitious enrollment initiatives, and her understanding, compassion and empathy will help our Admissions Office uphold the value we place on our relationships with students and their families on their unique EIU journeys.”

Tierney is intimately familiar with EIU and its mission. She has served as Associate Director of Admissions at Eastern since 2017, helping the University to incrementally increase first-time freshmen enrollment. Before being selected for the Associate Director role, Tierney served as Special Events Coordinator and Admissions Counselor where, along with her colleagues, she worked to intensify prospective student touchpoints through customized open houses, visit days, off-campus recruitment events and campus tours.

Throughout her time at EIU, Tierney has developed critical partnerships across campus—including in areas like Marketing and Communication, Housing & Dining, and New Student & Family Programs—that have aided in EIU’s overall success. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Illinois Association for College Admissions Counselors (IACAC) and the National Association for College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).

As she steps into her new Director role, Tierney shared she will continue to prioritize creating an inclusive environment for staff, current and future students, and the families and friends who support them. Tierney earned a Master of Science in School Counseling degree at EIU in 2013 after earning bachelor and associate science degrees in Psychology from SIU-E and Lake Land College, respectively. She graduated from Windsor High School in Windsor, Illinois in 2008.
