(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University will host its fall 2023 commencement celebration in two separate ceremonies Saturday, December 16 in Groniger Arena at Charles P. Lantz Complex on EIU’s Charleston, Illinois campus.

Ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. for students graduating from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Lumpkin College of Business and Technology, and at 1 p.m. for the College of Education and the College of Health and Human Services. Students enrolled in the Graduate School will march with their respective colleges in both ceremonies. Approximately 1,100 students are eligible to graduate in EIU’s fall 2023 semester ceremonies.

EIU President Jay Gatrell will preside, with music provided by the EIU Wind Symphony.

EIU alum and member of the Board of Directors for EIU’s Alumni Association Darius White will deliver the charge to the class for both ceremonies. White graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in

family and consumer science, followed by the completion of a master’s degree in project management at Colorado Technical University in 2018. His commitment to education has been a guiding force throughout his life. He was recognized as a 40 Under Forty recipient by Central Illinois Business Magazine in 2022 and has made significant contributions to the Champaign-Urbana business landscape. During his address to the graduating class, he will share insights into the

impact of involvement, dedication, and continuous personal growth.
