Effingham, IL, September 4, 2024 – The Airport Commission of Effingham County announced at their meeting on Wednesday that they will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the runway extension on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 10:30am.
The Airport Commission has been diligently working with Hanson Professional Services, Inc., the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Illinois Division of Aeronautics on a runway extension for the newly renamed Effingham County Regional Airport. The project received funding via the Rebuild Illinois Program and officially approved by the FAA in December 6, 2023 in a letter describing the project as an extension of the primary east-west Runway 11-29 by 898 feet to the southeast and an extension of parallel Taxiway A to the extended Runway 29. With the preparation work of obstruction removal, road relocation, and environmental assessment completed, the Airport Commission is ready to break ground for the extension.
The Airport Commission would like to extend an invitation to the public to join them in celebrating this next phase for the Effingham County Regional Airport.
