Effingham, IL, September 8, 2023 – In August 2023, Effingham County Probation Official, Cheryl Meyers, attended and graduated from the 2023 Leadership Academy sponsored by UCCI.

The Leadership Academy, developed by the University of Illinois Extension, provides training on important leadership issues for elected and appointed county officials. Some topics presented for discussion were managing change, data driven decision making, parliamentary procedure, leadership styles assessment, managing economic development, crisis communication, and more.

The Leadership Academy is specifically designed for county officials looking to expand their leadership skills through exploration of innovative ideas and developing practical responses to current issues, challenges, and opportunities. Incorporation of instructional sessions assists in the learning, sharing, and application of techniques learned supporting retention and practical application in the students’ everyday lives.

“The 6-day event was both enlightening & educational. The training sessions were exceptional, and the presenters were engaging. An added bonus was the ability to network with county officials from around the state. I’d highly recommend any Effingham County official who has not participated in this event to do so,” says Cheryl Meyers.

Effingham County Board Chairman, Joshua Douthit, stated, “The Leadership Academy is one way to assist Effingham County elected officials and department managers in expanding their knowledge while furthering professional development as leaders. The Effingham County Board takes an active role in promoting leadership opportunities for our employees with a goal in setting a standard of excellence in services we provide in an environment employees can thrive. I want to recognize Cheryl for her dedication to Effingham County and the probation department and congratulate her on a successful completion of this course.”
