The Effingham County Chamber recognizes The Equity as a 2021 Excellence in Business Award Winner.
The Excellence in Business award is presented to two recipients each year. The purpose of this award is to celebrate member businesses for the outstanding contributions that they make to our communities and the local economy through their continued growth, innovation, and community support. Award criteria includes the company’s investment in improved facilities; increased employment; innovation in business practices and processes; and, exceptional involvement in community projects/programs through financial contributions, sponsorships, in-kind goods and services and employee volunteerism.
About The Equity
The Equity began in 1919 with a group of forward-thinking farmers who saw that by joining together they would have greater buying power. Today The Equity is the largest independent agricultural cooperative in Illinois. Their market area covers approximately 20,000 square miles with 17 full-time locations in Illinois: Effingham, Alma, Altamont, Dieterich, Farina, Galton, Greenville, Horace, Lovington, Marshall, Montrose, Pana, Robinson, St. Rose, Stewardson, Strasburg, West Liberty, and one location in Farmersburg, Indiana.
The Equity has invested in infrastructure and people to service their customers’ agronomy needs when they need them. They’ve established The Equity Agronomy Department, Energy Department, Feed & Livestock Department, and the Grain Department all to provide American-made brands for homeowners, farmers, contractors, hunters and more.
While The Equity has grown and developed greatly during the last years, one constant remains – the focus on agriculture. Today, as in 1919, The Equity’s main purpose is to help its members obtain the goods and services they need to farm as efficiently and profitably as possible. The concept of cooperation is a tested form of business organization that has survived wars, depressions, intergenerational transitions, and changes in government. The Equity’s challenge for the future is to test its limits to assure that is does the best possible job for its patrons.
