CHARLESTON, IL (07/22/2026) Eastern Illinois University has once again earned national recognition from Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) as one of the nation’s most transfer-friendly institutions, highlighting the University’s success in serving and supporting transfer students. PTK noted that only 275 colleges and universities received this recognition in 2026.

“Transfer students bring valuable experiences and perspectives to our campus,” said EIU Director of Admissions Brittany Tierney. “As a former transfer student, I know the challenges students can face and also see the valuable experiences and perspectives they bring to our campus. We are intentional about creating clear pathways that help them continue their educational journey with confidence,” “This national recognition affirms the work our faculty and staff do every day to help transfer students feel welcomed, supported, and prepared for success.”

According to Phi Theta Kappa, institutions named to this list are recognized for their “excellence and success in community college transfer pathway development” in the world of higher education. The Phi Theta Kappa organization also specified that only the top 25 percent highest-rated colleges were named to their Transfer Honor Roll based on the organization’s “Transfer Friendliness Rating.” In addition to the overall Transfer Friendliness Rating, Phi Theta Kappa analyzes universities based on transfer data, admissions data, peer reviews, evaluations of campus life, the University’s recruitment practices, and the total cost of attendance.

EIU was recognized for its commitment to transfer student success and for creating strong pathways for transfer students. The recognition is based on information provided through EIU’s PTK Connect Transfer Profile, including admissions practices, transfer scholarships, cost of attendance, campus life, recruitment information, and student reviews.

A commemorative award and certificate will be shipped to campus in late summer or early fall, and EIU will be featured in PTK publications and media channels.
