Burlington, IA (June 30, 2026) First Mid Bank & Trust (First Mid), Community Action of Southeast Iowa, and Sherwin-Williams are partnering to continue a longstanding Southeast Iowa tradition through the 33rd annual Paint-A-Thon, which will kick off on September 7 following Labor Day weekend.
For more than three decades, the Paint-A-Thon has helped qualifying homeowners improve and maintain their homes through volunteer-led painting projects, strengthening neighborhoods throughout Burlington, West Burlington, Mediapolis, and surrounding communities. Over the past 32 years, volunteers have painted more than 573 homes and contributed countless hours of service to homeowners throughout Southeast Iowa. The program helps homeowners preserve the appearance and value of their properties while fostering community pride and volunteerism.
“Paint-A-Thon has made a lasting impact in Southeast Iowa for more than 30 years, and we’re proud to help carry on that tradition,” said Shane Zimmerman, Western Division President at First Mid. “Programs like this bring people together, improve neighborhoods, and demonstrate what can be accomplished when community partners and volunteers work toward a common goal.”
Community Action of Southeast Iowa is currently accepting applications from eligible homeowners interested in participating in this year’s Paint-A-Thon. Homeowners may qualify based on factors such as age, disability, veteran status, and income eligibility. Homes must be owner-occupied and meet program requirements.
Volunteer crews will complete painting projects during the week of September 7. Individuals, businesses, civic groups, and community organizations are encouraged to participate. Volunteers can assist with painting, preparation work, and other project activities.
Community Action of Southeast Iowa coordinates homeowner applications and project selection, while Sherwin-Williams provides paint and product support to help make the annual effort possible.
“The Burlington Paint-A-Thon transforms more than homes – it strengthens communities. By providing free, quality paint jobs to deserving homeowners through volunteer efforts, we help preserve dignity, build pride, and bring neighbors together in service,” said Jim Blackwell, Weatherization Program Director, Community Action of Southeast Iowa. He added, “We are still actively seeking qualified homes for this year’s event.”
