What is Illinois JusticeCorps?
Illinois JusticeCorps places volunteers in courthouses to help people without lawyers navigate the civil justice system. Illinois JusticeCorps is an AmeriCorps program.
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. AmeriCorps provides opportunities to turn your determination, compassion, and creativity into practical solutions for neighbors and strangers, alike. AmeriCorps service also builds your professional experience and creates pathways to jobs for your future.
What is a Fellow?
Fellows work with courthouse staff to provide a variety of services to people who can’t afford an attorney, or simply need a better understanding of the court system and its procedures. JusticeCorps volunteers do not give legal advice, instead they empower people with the tools they need to represent themselves. Fellows also:
➢ Lead a team of volunteers
➢ Create Americorps projects and events
➢ Collect data for quarterly reports
➢ Watch court, observe judges and attorneys
➢ Build friendships with other service-minded people
What is the commitment?
● 675 or 450 hours from January 5, 2026, to August 31, 2026.
● Provide in-person services to most counties in the 4th Judicial Circuit.
● Must have reliable transportation.
Benefits?
➔ $9,375 or $6,250 stipend paid across the term of service on the 1st and 15th.
➔ AmeriCorps Segal Education award
➔ Mileage reimbursement to travel to other counties in the circuit
