Nokomis, IL – November 6, 2024 – Aumann Auctions, Inc. is proud to announce the auction of a rare, historic blunderbuss firearm used in the globally popular “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series. The double-barreled brass flintlock firearm, a custom-built piece crafted to replicate 18th-century weaponry, played a role in the third installment of the franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” a film that grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

This one-of-a-kind firearm was meticulously made by a U.S. gunsmith, drawing inspiration from original blunderbusses crafted in the 1700s and 1800s. Featuring flared brass barrels, a spring swivel mount bayonet, and elegant engravings—including the inscription “London” near the breech—the blunderbuss has a distinct look and a rich patina that exudes its cinematic history. With a serial number of POC3, an acronym for “Pirates of the Caribbean,” this remarkable piece includes original documents and letters detailing its use in the movie.

Provenance & Unique Features The firearm, sourced from Independent Studio Services (ISS), the largest prop house in the United States, comes with significant Hollywood provenance. Documentation provided with the blunderbuss includes a rental sheet from 2014, a letter from Master Armorer Harry Lu confirming its use in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” and an assessment of its value as a prop. Onscreen, the blunderbuss was fired by characters Cotton (portrayed by David Bailie) and Marty (portrayed by Martin Klebba), with action scenes set high in the crow’s nest of a ship.

In addition to its role in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, the blunderbuss has appeared in other productions, including the TV series “Washington Spies” and Fox’s “The Mick.” Movie enthusiasts and collectors will find this unique piece a remarkable addition to any collection, as it captures the essence of Hollywood history and cinematic artistry.
