Dieterich, Ill. (September 18, 2024) Wright’s Furniture & Flooring, a 5th generation family-owned business is proud to announce it is celebrating its 135th anniversary. George W. Wright first opened the business’ doors in Dieterich in 1889 and it has been a part of the Central Illinois community since.
“It has been such a wonderful privilege to see our family business grow from generation to generation,” said President John Wright. “Each milestone and anniversary we celebrate is a big deal to us and a testament to my great grandfather’s hard work and dedication to open the business. Dieterich and Central Illinois are home to us and we are proud to be a small piece of the history here.”
George W. Wright opened the store at a time when people were migrating south and taking advantage of inexpensive land prices in Arkansas. He had purchased a train ticket to start a new life and seize the opportunity when unexpectedly, an owner of a local furniture store offered to sell him the store. After giving up his spot on the train, Wright struck a deal and the company was born. The company has evolved over the years and expanded, opening its Wright at Home location in Effingham in 1997 and its Robinson and Taylorville locations in 2019.
“Wright’s Furniture & Flooring has been a part of my life since the day I was born,” said Vice President Alex Wright. “It is a blessing to be able to meet so many wonderful customers and families here in Central Illinois. We know that when our customers take home a piece from Wright’s Furniture, they too have the chance to pass something on from generation to generation.”
To celebrate, the company is having a 135th Anniversary Sale where customers can save $100 on every $1000 spent from September 19 through October 12. In addition to the sale and in honor of the business’ history, train tickets will be hidden throughout the showrooms for customers to find to receive a prize.

The business also offers interior design services in its Dieterich, Robinson and Taylorville locations and window treatments through its Wright at Home store in Effingham.
