Effingham, IL, April 17, 2023 –  On Monday April 17, 2023 at the Effingham County Board meeting, Board Chairman, Joshua Douthit, signed a proclamation of declaring April 24th through April 29th, 2023 as Effingham Rotary Week.

Chairman Douthit shared a brief history of the Effingham Rotary Club having been organized by a group of businessmen on January 29, 1920 with weekly meetings beginning February 11, 1920 at the Raleigh Hotel as well as the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club organized at a later date meeting weekly since May 19, 1994.

Chairman Douthit praised the Rotary with their motto of “Service Above Self” encouraging members to provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical standard with good will and peace throughout the world.  Douthit highlighted some of these services as funding local club projects, sponsoring volunteers with community expertise providing medical supplies, health care, clean water, food production, job training and education to millions in need, particularly developing counties.

The Effingham County Board is the legislative body of County Government comprised of nine elected members, each representing a geographic district within the County. The Board participates an open meeting monthly on the third Monday of the month, with the exception of Holidays in which the meeting date is moved to Tuesday.  The Board also encompasses various committees that report and recommend to the board.
