DESCRIPTION:Nominations are open for the Effingham County Chamber’s 2026 Top Leaders Under 40 and Future Leaders recognition programs. \nTop Leaders Under 40 recognizes individuals ages 20–40 who live or work in Effingham County and have made significant contributions to their community through leadership\, professional achievement and involvement. Nominees cannot be previous recipients. \nNominate a 2026 Top Leader Under 40 \nFuture Leaders recognizes outstanding high school students from Effingham County’s six school districts. Nominees must be ages 14–20\, attend high school full-time in Effingham County\, maintain at least a B average\, participate in extracurricular or leadership activities\, and demonstrate leadership within their school or community. One Future Leader will be selected from each of the six school districts. \nNominate a 2026 Future Leader \nNomination deadline: Saturday\, September 12\, 2026 \nSelected recipients will be recognized at the Top Leaders Recognition Dinner on Thursday\, November 19\, from 5:30–9 p.m. at the Keller Convention Center.

SUMMARY:City Council Presention Shares Heart Theatre Vision
DESCRIPTION:EFFINGHAM\, IL — The Heart Theatre\, Inc. invites community members to attend the Effingham City Council meeting \nDate/Time: Tuesday\, August 4\, at 5:00 p.m. at Effingham City Hall\, where representatives of the nonprofit organization will present an overview of the vision\, restoration plans\, and community impact of the historic Heart Theatre. \nThe presentation is informational in nature and is intended to provide city leaders and the public with an opportunity to learn more about the proposed restoration of one of Effingham’s most recognizable downtown landmarks. \nThe Heart Theatre\, originally opened in 1940 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places\, has been the focus of a multi-year planning effort involving architects\, historic theatre specialists\, business leaders\, arts organizations\, downtown stakeholders\, and community members. \n“Our goal has always been to create something that belongs to the entire community\,” said Amy Van Bergen\, President of The Heart Theatre\, Inc. “This presentation is an opportunity to share what we’ve learned\, answer questions\, and discuss how restoring The Heart can strengthen downtown\, support local businesses\, expand arts and educational opportunities\, preserve an important piece of Effingham’s history\, and create a welcoming gathering place for generations to come.” In addition to Van Bergen\, board members Kenneth Thies and Carrie Rodman will be sharing details about the project. \nThe presentation will highlight: \n· The vision for the restored Heart Theatre \n· Planned programming and community uses \n· Estimated economic impact for downtown businesses \n· The proposed funding strategy\, including private philanthropy\, grants\, tax credits\, corporate sponsorships\, and other funding sources \n· Long-term operational and governance plans \n· The project’s potential to attract additional investment into Effingham \nFollowing the presentation\, members of the public who wish to do so will have the opportunity to offer comments during the City Council’s public comment period. \nCommunity members are encouraged to attend and learn more about the project.
