SUMMARY:Severe Storm Spotter Training
DESCRIPTION:EFFINGHAM\, IL. – Effingham County Emergency Management Agency (ECEMA) in collaboration with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln will be holding a Special Storm Spotter Training Class on Saturday\, October 24\, from 10 a.m. to Noon at the Effingham County Emergency Operations Center\, 311 Miracle Avenue\, Effingham. \nDuring the regular storm spotter training\, participants will learn the characteristics of severe thunderstorms and other associated threats\, severe weather-relevant cloud formations\, and weather safety practices. \nParticipants will also learn how they can be a National Weather Service SKYWARN volunteer and help keep our community safe\, by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather directly to the National Weather Service. \nIn addition to the usual storm spotter training\, the NWS is providing a winter storm outlook with safety information\, and the NWS will also explain ways they provide incident support to first responders in Effingham County. \nParticipants should note:\n• Training lasts about 2 hours.\n• The class is free and open to the public.\n• The class is appropriate for all ages.
