Biernbaum, Lakin, Lindsey add value, expertise to Alumni Association efforts

(Charleston, IL) – The Eastern Illinois University Alumni Association has announced the appointment of three new members to the Board of Directors. John “JB” Biernbaum, Abbye Lakin, and Todd Lindsey each have joined the association’s board with their terms becoming effective July 30, 2022.

John “JB” Biernbaum is a 1992 and 1994 EIU graduate, having earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science degree in Education. He is currently employed as associate vice president of Student Services at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, where he resides.

“My time at EIU as an active student leader in the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and as Resident Assistant for University Housing and Dining Services was the jumping off point for my career and a time in my life I treasure to this day,” said Biernbaum. “Eastern changed my life and I still ‘Bleed Blue.’ I think joining the [Alumni Association] Board will be a great way for me to help give back to a place I love and that three generations of my family have attended—including my nephew this fall.”

Abbye Lakin is a 2011 EIU graduate, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Corporate Communication. She currently resides in Chicago, where she serves as director of communications for Ajinomoto Health and Nutrition.

“From an excellent education that has been foundational to my career, to incredible memories and lifelong friendships—Eastern Illinois University has given me so much and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back in a new way,” said Lakin. “As a Board Member, I am most looking forward to connecting with the alumni network to drive impact and strategic growth for the next generation of students.”

Todd Lindsey is a 1987 EIU graduate who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. He is currently employed by Heartland Bank & Trust Company and resides in Urbana, Illinois.

“After many years of helping other organizations advance their missions, I really welcome the opportunity to help do the same for my alma mater,” Lindsay said. “My professional career path began at Eastern and I’m excited to work with the board to help give others the chance at a successful path as well.”
